ROB BIAGI CALLS ON
GEORGE LATIMER TO STOP "GOOFING OFF"
AND GET BACK TO WORK BEFORE ECONOMIC DOOMSDAY
Candidate for Assembly says George
Latimer and Assembly Democrats should
join Governor and Senate to return to Albany and cut spending
(July 28, 2008) With Governor Paterson's upcoming
speech addressing the state's financial crisis and the probable
return to Albany of the State Senate, Rob Biagi, candidate for New
York State Assembly in the 91st District, today called once again
on Assemblyman George Latimer and his Democrat cronies to call off
their summer vacations and return to session to cut spending and
get New York back on track.
"George Latimer and his Assembly buddies are spending money
like it's going out of style. Not to mention all the unfunded mandates
that they expect the taxpayers of New York to pay the tab on. They
need to go back to Albany and cut what they shouldn't have spent
to begin with," said Biagi, also noting that Latimer voted
"yes" to this year's state budget increase of 4.9 percent
- more than rate of inflation.
"Reducing spending is what has to be done to rescue the state
from the brink of economic doomsday. George Latimerand the Assembly
need to go back to Albany, and stay there until the spending spree
is stopped," said Biagi. "If we expect people to stay
in New York, we need to stop out of control spending, which is supplemented
by sky high taxes and unfunded mandates that put the burden back
on the taxpayers."
"The Senate is going back to work in Albany to provide real
relief, while George Latimerand his Democrat friends continue to
sit around on an extended vacation at the expense of New York taxpayers,"
said Biagi. "One Nobel Prize winning economist has said that
we are in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
If that's true, then Latimer should stop goofing off and star working
to solve this catastrophe." Biagi further warned that "Latimer
should know better than to casually dismiss the gloomy economic
climate and property tax catastrophe as he's been doing lately,
telling community groups and folks at barbeques that it's not as
bad as it seems – he's completely ignorant of the expert forecasts
coming out of the business pages, let alone his own-party's Governor
and is woefully out of touch with the pain we're all feeling in
Westchester."
"What we have to do to give New Yorkers relief is for the Legislature
to stop spending money without concern or regard and start being
fiscally responsible. The legislature has to give relief to the
taxpayers of New York and cut spending to ensure we do not slip
any further into chaos," concluded Biagi.
