EUGENE L. BONDY
Eugene L. Bondy, Jr., born on December 14, 1920, of Mamaroneck, died on Saturday
December 13, 2008, one day shy of his
88th birthday.
A former senior partner of law firm Rogers & Wells in Manhattan
(now Clifford Chance) was a New Rochelle native and a magna cum laude,
Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Harvard. Following overseas service as a Captain
in the Army Air Corps during WWII, he graduated from Columbia Law School
and began his legal career at Sullivan & Cromwell in 1948, joining Dwight,
Royal, Harris, Koegel & Kasky (later, Rogers & Wells) in 1956. He was
a longtime chairman of the corporate department and a member of the executive
committee.
Following his retirement in 1990, Mr. Bondy traveled extensively
with his wife, the former Anne Lawrence and read voraciously.
He leaves
his wife of 58 years, daughter Elizabeth Bondy of Gainesville, FL and
her husband William Dunn and their children Charles, Samuel and Margaret;
daughter Priscilla B. Dube of Burlington, VT and her husband Joel and
their children Carolyn and Simeon; son David A. Bondy of Brooklyn, NY
and his wife Debra and children Nathaniel and Lillian. He also leaves
his brother, Philip K. Bondy, M.D. of North Branford, CT and his sister,
Ruth Lowy of Larchmont.
A memorial gathering will be held in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes
Association.
