FRANCES MCCARTHY

Frances Young McCarthy, a longtime Larchmont resident, died on Sunday, November 2nd at the age of 92 after an extended illness. She was born on August 24, 1916 in Brooklyn, New York to Francis and Alice McManus Young.

Fran was graduated from St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn and earned a Master of Business from Columbia University in New York. She had a successful 32 year career with IBM where, in 1939, she began with IBM where she became one of the first women in a managerial position. In August of 1971, she married James F. McCarthy of White Plains.

Fran served on the several boards in Westchester including Westchester Community College, St. Agnes Hospital and Cardinal McCloskey Services. She devotedly volunteered her time and talent at St. Agnes Hospital and Sts. John and Paul Church where she was a parishioner, in addition to being a board member of the Ladies of Charity of the Archdiocese of New York. She was also a member of Larchmont Shore Club.

In 1984 her husband, Jim, pre-deceased her. Fran is survived by her sisters, Sister Alice Francis Young of Brooklyn and Ruth Young LaBarge of Florida as well as her brother George (Mary Lou) Young of Spring Lake, New Jersey. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Francis (Bud) Young, Jr. Fran is also survived by her step-children, Patricia McCarthy Tomassi, James F. McCarthy, John R. McCarthy, Robert H. McCarthy and Eleanor McCarthy Mooney, nine grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive visitors at Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont on Thursday, November 6 from 4-8 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of Sts. John and Paul in Larchmont on Friday, November 7 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of Sts. John and Paul in Larchmont, the Cardinal McCloskey Services in White Plains or a charity of your choice.
