ANNE BRADY WALSH
Anne Brady Walsh passed away peacefully on August 29th 2008. Anne Brady
was born in Stradone, County Cavan, Ireland on February 8, 1911, and at
the age of 19 sailed to the United States. Upon her arrival in New York,
Anne became the nanny for the Bohmert family of Mamaroneck NY with whom
she remained dear friends. She met her husband Denis (Denny) Walsh, an Irish tenor from Ballinacurra, Midleton, County Cork, Ireland, when he was the singer at a wedding she attended. This was during the depression years, and they waited 7 years to marry. After giving birth to 5 children, they moved from Mamaroneck to Larchmont NY where Anne continued to devote her life to her husband and the children's well being. She was an excellent cook and her table was never too full to share with anyone who happened to appear unexpectedly. She was an active member of The Ancient Order of Hibernians and loved to dance at the Irish gatherings with her husband. She also was a member of St. John and Paul's and St. Augustine's Ladies' Auxiliaries in Larchmont, even being part of a volunteer group into her early nineties. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader for a number of years, and worked tirelessly to raise funds for the expansion of St. John & Paul's parish, the March of Dimes and yearly school fundraising events. She also made sure her children all received good educations. As grandchildren appeared, she devoted her time to their care and enjoyment. When Denny died, Anne took up childcare again and became a substitute granny to many local children and loved them all as her own. She did however find time to visit with her extended family in Ireland and England. In 2003, as old age slowed her down, she reluctantly sold her home in Larchmont and moved to her eldest son's home in North Granby, CT. There she enjoyed the excellent care of John and wife, Mary (Aitcheson) Walsh also from Larchmont and their busy family. She also spent part of her time in Westport, CT at the summer home of her eldest daughter Maura and husband Bill (Gartland), again originally from Larchmont. She always had a kind word for everyone, an open place at her table and a gift for making people feel comfortable. She loved to laugh and had a wry sense of humor. She is survived by her 5 children: John Walsh of North Granby, CT, Denis Walsh of Pelham, NY, Maura Gartland née Walsh of Harwich MA, Elizabeth Meyn née Walsh of Sonoma, CA and Kevin Walsh of Mill Valley, CA, 14 grand children and 18 great grand children. Anne will be interned at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery alongside her husband. A memorial mass is planned for Saturday, October 11th at St. Therese's Church in Granby, CT followed by a large gathering to celebrate a long life well lived. The Carmon Funeral home in Granby, CT will handle arrangements. They can be reached at 1-888-688-8475. Further information may be found at www.emk.com/annewalsh |
