JOAN A. KENNEDY
Joan A. Kennedy, age 78, retired teacher of the Rye Neck School system, died Tuesday August 19, 2008 at her home in Mamaroneck. Born in Mt. Vernon NY, she was the daughter of Albert and Katharine (Mayer ) Kennedy.A graduate of Green Mountain College and Columbia University, her varied career included early years as a fashion stylist, followed by long service in the Scarsdale and Rye Neck schools. Post retirement, Joan followed a dream to become an antiques dealer, with a charming antiques shop in Saddle River NJ.
A loving, devoted sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, she was an enthusiastic traveler, and a strong supporter of the arts and peacekeeping/ rescue causes. She was a member of the Larchmont Avenue Church.
Survivors include her sister Kit Brinkman, nephews Douglas and Peter Brinkman, niece Paula Hughes, and grandnieces Claire and Hannah Brinkman and Mackenzie Hughes.
A memorial service will be held in the Larchmont Avenue Church, located at 60 Forest Park Avenue in Larchmont, on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 2:00 pm. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial gifts to the Mamaroneck Public Library, 136 Prospect Avenue, Mamaroneck NY 10543, or the International Rescue Committee, 122 East 42nd Street, NY, NY 10168.
