LOUIS E. PROFILET

Louis E. Profilet Louis E. Profilet, a former resident of New Bern, NC, passed away on March 24 at King Street Home in Rye Brook. Mr. Profilet, 84, had been in declining health in recent years and had moved to Larchmont in 2006 to be with his family.

Born in Cairo, Illinois in 1923, Mr. Profilet grew up there and graduated from St. Joseph's High School. He was a Boy Scout leader and served in the Illinois State Militia during World War II, after being unable, for health reasons, to accept an appointment to the US Naval Academy. An avid reader and observer of science and history, Mr. Profilet had a wide-ranging curiosity about the world, and imparted his love of learning to his children.

His career with a manufacturing company, Burkart, required moves over the years to several locations in the east and midwest, including a long stint in Henderson, NC, where he was a plant manager, Rotarian, hospital and church volunteer, and founding board member of Vance Community College. After retiring in 1984, he and his wife, Laura, moved to New Bern's River Bend neighborhood. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and volunteered for many years with civic and church organizations in New Bern. Laura and a son, Gregory, predeceased him.

Mr. Profilet is survived by daughters Elaine Profilet and Paula Eisenberg, son-in-law David, all of Larchmont, NY, and two grandchildren, Eve, of Binghamton, NY and Matthew, of Telluride, CO. Two brothers, Joseph of Bloomington, IL, and Stephen of Winona, MN, also survive him.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 am Friday at St. Paul's Church,, New Bern, NC, with burial following at Greenleaf Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Mr. Profilet's memory to Fisher House (www.fisherhouse.org). Cotten Funeral Home, (252) 637-3181, is in charge of arrangements.
