DOLORES A. KELLYLong-time Larchmont resident Dolores A. Kelly died peacefully on March 10 with her husband and eldest daughter at her bedside. She was 83.Mrs. Kelly together with her husband James H. Kelly and six children, had lived on Byron Lane from 1964 until 2006 when they relocated to their current home at Dock Meadows assisted living community in Hatfield, PA. Mrs. Kelly was mother to 6 children, grandmother to 10 and great grandmother of 2. She is survived by her husband James H. Kelly of Hatfield, PA (former Chairman of the Board of S&H Green Stamps), all of her children (James J. Kelly of Washington, D.C., Lawrence J. Kelly of Souderton, PA, Patricia E. Taraborrelli of Philadelphia, PA, Robert P. Kelly of Scarsdale, NY; Kathleen E. Rothschild of Ossining, NY; and Mary Ellen Kelly of Mount Kisco, NY), her grandchildren (James J. Kelly, Jr.; Kerin A. Kelly, Daniel, Michael, and Ryan Taraborrelli, Kara, Lia, Luke, Kelly and Kyle Rothschild) her great grandchildren (James and Gavin Kelly), and her brother William Kanaly of Fort Edwards, NY. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Rita Hennessy, beloved brother Joseph Kanaly, and beloved half-brothers Frankie, Robbie and Eddie Burns. Despite the rigors of raising six children, Mrs. Kelly found time to volunteer in the community through the years including the Larchmont Senior Center, Sackrapath Girl Scout Council, the Saints John & Paul library as well as other civic organizations in towns where the family had lived in earlier years. Mrs. Kelly was well-known for her frequent walks throughout Larchmont and Mamaroneck for fitness and pleasure, often with her husband at her side. For some years she had been an active member of the Saints John & Paul parish where her four youngest children had attended elementary school. Like so many others, she also found herself "Knittin' for Britain" during World War II. Mrs. Kelly was a world traveler, touring the Middle East, Australia, Mexico, Canada, Europe, Asia and most of the United States with her husband at her side. Her travels included cruises on the Queen Elizabeth II. Her favorite destinations included Alaska and Hawaii, each location visited three times. She marked as one of her most trying times the several days' disjointed journey her husband took from a corporate board meeting in New Mexico in an attempt to reunite with her in Larchmont by car following the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York's World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington with its resultant shutdown of the United States' air travel. Mrs. Kelly graduated from Dickinson High School in Jersey City, NJ in 1942. She met her future husband in 1944 while working as a civilian employee for the U.S. Army in the Quartermaster's office. She was born Dolores Kanaly June 30, 1924 to Mary Ellen and John Kanaly of Jersey City, NJ. Services were held at the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home in Landsdale, Pennsylvania. |
