Nine Local Retailers Unite to Benefit Larchmont Charity

(November 20, 2008) Charitable impulses will be rewarded this holiday season with discounts on "Our Block," a group of local stores and food establishments on the west side of Palmer Avenue between East Avenue (aka Larchmont Avenue) and West Avenue.

“Everyone on our block has gotten together to support this special program for shoppers," explained Lee Rubin, owner of Wendy Gee! "For a donation of $25 to Larchmont Friends of the Family, the shopper will receive a card offering a 10% discount on everything from ice cream, wine, lunch and dinner to collectibles, fine art and children’s clothing on the block.”

“You could call it shop local, support local,” he added.

Shoppers can make their donations and pick up a card at any of the establishments on “Our Block” starting Wednesday, November 26th. The cards will be valid from Thanksgiving until Christmas.

Participants include East Avenue Café, Longfords Ice Cream, Le Wine Shop, Wallach Jewelers, Kenise Barnes Fine Art, Outerluxe, Palmer’s Crossing, Wendy Gee! and Twinkle Toes.

In addition to the special gift card, “Our Block” also plans extended opening hours including Thursday evenings until 7:30 pm and Sundays from 12 – 4pm.

Donation cards will be available between Thanksgiving and Christmas at all the participating establishments.
