More Donors Needed for St. Augustine’s Thanksgiving Dinners

by Joan R. Simon

(November 13, 2008) Once again, St. Augustine’s Church in Larchmont is sponsoring a drive to provide Thanksgiving dinners to needy families in Mamaroneck, Larchmont and New Rochelle.

Because the need is expected to be greater this year than previously, the church is hoping to find more volunteers. “It’s going to be a large increase this year,” said Margaret Paganini, one of the St. Augustine parishioners who is helping to organize the drive. She estimated a rise of at least 30% over the approximately 200 families the church served last year.

Donors can chose the size of the family they want to cook for. Full meals consist of turkey, vegetables, dessert, beverages (excluding alcohol) and any extras, such as candies, nuts appetizers, and paper goods. Single items, such as turkey, side dishes and desserts, are also welcome. Sign up sheets are available at all the entrances to the church.

Meals need to be delivered to the church on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, between 8 and 9 am. They will be brought to families throughout the area following the morning Mass.
