Mamaroneck Mustangs U-11 Take First Place Again

from the U-11 Mustangs

(November 12, 2008) After a perfect season last spring, the Mamaroneck Mustangs U-11 girl’s travel soccer team was moved up a division this fall – and still took first place. (See: U-10 Mustangs Score Perfect Soccer Record ) With a 7-1-1 record, their last game against the second-place Manhattan’s Asphalt Green for the title ended in a tie, securing first place for the Mustangs.

Coach Christie Derrico described the team as “an incredibly dedicated group of girls who have continued to improve individually as athletes and to support each other as a team.” She said the team has grown, adding new players and continually refining their soccer skills. Ms. Derrico praised her co-coach Carmela Casas for inspiring the girls with positive reinforcement and encouraging each girl to work towards her personal best.

“These girls have worked through injuries and have prevailed against teams sometimes with players double our girls’ size,” Ms. Derrico said. The team was also assisted by Carolina Bracho who volunteered as a trainer for the team this season.
