Larchmont “Tent of Hope" Destined for DC & Then Chad
Larchmont Temple Children's Tent Raises Awareness for the People of
Darfur
by Kim Becker
(October 22, 2008) Larchmont Temple’s youngest members
are participating in the national Tents of Hope Project this fall, transforming
a refugee tent into a work of art. The children recently decorated a stark,
bare refugee tent with vivid colors and messages of hope to express their
compassion and desire for peace in Darfur, Sudan, where a civil war has
forced hundreds of thousands of people into refugee camps. Their tent,
which can now be seen in the Larchmont Temple garden, will make the trek
shortly to Washington, D.C. and then overseas to Chad by year’s
end.
On November 9, Larchmont residents will escort the children’s
tent to the National Mall in Washington, where it will join hundreds of
other decorated tents for a two-day exhibit to create awareness and support
for the people of Darfur. Following its national display, the Larchmont
tent will then be among those sent to an actual camp in Chad to be used
by the refugees living there.
