Local Students Invited to Shake Hands with R. L. Stine

Reservations Required: Reserve Now for EVERMORE, October 19

by Maureen Mancini Amaturo

(October 2, 2008) Just before Halloween, local students will have an opportunity to shake hands with a master of scary stories, R.L. Stine, best known as the author of the Goosebumps series. Mr. Stine and other notables in the world of fright fiction will be on hand for EVERMORE: Masters of Mystery from Edgar Allan Poe to R. L. Stine, the Rye Arts Center’s second annual Halloween Literary Arts event and show on October 19 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.

RLStine
R.L.Stine is one of the literary celebrities coming to EVERMORE.

Students from Larchmont and other Westchester and Connecticut communities have already been invited to contribute their own scary stories for a contest to be judged by a panel of three published authors, including Mamaroneck’s Lee Stringer (Grand Central Winter) along with Alan Beechey (An Embarrassment of Corpses) and Cathy Greenwood (So You Wanna Be A Writer?).

The winners will receive their prizes on October 19 along with a congratulatory handshake from R.L. Stine. Winners and other attendees will be entertained by a slate of literary celebrities:

R. L. STINE will provide a behind-the-scenes peek at his inspiration and humor and a glimpse at what makes him a best-selling author.

RUPERT HOLMES will give a debut reading of his new story due out this January, “A Nomad of The Night” and discuss his entertainment experiences and life as a mystery writer. He’s already won a Tony, Emmy, Drama Desk and two Edgar awards, in addition to creating many of Broadway’s biggest successes, best-selling mystery novels, and hit songs.

ANTHONY MASON, CBS correspondent, seven-time Emmy winner and Raven Award winner will anchor the discussion panel and audience Q & A.

TONY TSENDEAS, actor, writer, and director-in-residence with the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival will cast a spell with his dramatic performance of several of Poe's works, concluding with "The Raven".

JEFF JEROME, curator of the Poe House and Museum in Baltimore and a consultant for “Jeopardy” will reveal little-known facts about the Poe.

Following the show is a reception of tricky treats and a book sale and book-signing with R.L. Stine, Lee Stringer, Rupert Holmes and Cathy Greenwood.

Reservations are required. To reserve a spot call 914-967-0700 or visit www.ryeartscenter.org
