Larchmont Library Adds Bar to Fundraising Thermometer
by Nancy Donovan, Larchmont Public Library
(September 11, 2008) It may be almost autumn but according
to the thermometer on the Larchmont Library lawn, it’s getting HOT.
Miriam Curnin, the chair of the Larchmont Library Board
of Trustees, recently added a bar to the thermometer to indicate that
donations for the Children’s Room renovation are nearing their fundraising
goal.

The 525 families who have donated to the renovation project
to date will be recognized on a donor plaque in the new room. Ms. Curnin
says she is hoping more families will contribute to the fund which needs
around $200,000 more.
The Children’s Room is closed and renovation has
begun, but children’s materials are available in the adult area.
The Periodical Reading Room now shares space with picture books, easy
readers and the game computer. Readers will find “chapter”
books and non-fiction books upstairs and down, and children’s DVDs,
videos, audiobooks and music are also accessible. Librarians are always
pleased to help select a book or order items from other libraries for
children as well as adults.
“Seeing our children throughout the library during
the renovation reminds us of our mission to help foster a lifelong love
of reading,” said Ms. Curnin.
Those who have not yet donated are urged to join the effort
to see the Larchmont Library has the financial resources it needs to create
an inviting space for the community's children. Donations can be made
by check, cash or credit card. Appreciated stocks may also be donated.
For information, phone the Library at 914-834-2281 or mail a donation
to the Larchmont Library, 121 Larchmont Avenue, Larchmont, NY 10538.
