Former Larchmont Pair Win Honors in London
by Susan Plotner
(September 4, 2008) Two former Larchmont residents, best
friends since second grade, jointly received the Stephen L. Eckard award
at their 8th grade graduation – in London, England.
Jordan Plotner and Ian Robertson had barely known each other as toddlers.
It took moving across the ocean for the two young men to meet, even though
they lived no more than half a mile from each other in Larchmont. In 1999,
Ian was finishing nursery school at St. John and Paul Church while Jordan
was finishing at Larchmont Temple. They would have been classmates that
September at Chatsworth Elementary School but the Robertsons moved to
London.
Two years later, it was the Plotners turn to move. As the Plotners were
busy settling into their new life in London, they were pleased to recognize
a familiar name on Jordan’s 2nd grade class list. It took only a
matter of days and a lasting friendship was forged between the two Larchmont
boys.
The Eckard award earned by the Larchmont duo is given in June by the
8th grade teachers at the American School in London to commemorate the
founder of the school. The faculty recognizes the student who has shown
fine leadership and, by virtue of his or her individual efforts and achievements,
goodwill, humility and grace, has consistently brought credit to the school.
It was fitting that Ian and Jordan should receive the honor together,
for aside from being best friends and accomplished students, they were
well-known throughout the middle school as the “celebrities”
who every morning greeted students and faculty with a “Goooood Morning
ASL” followed by the morning announcements. On the last day of their
broadcast, younger students were lined up waiting to get the boys’
autographs.
Susan Plotner is Jordan's mother.
