U9-B Blue Pumas Undefeated in Spring Soccer

by Ruby Engel

(July 3, 2008) The newly formed Larchmont Blue Pumas were undefeated in their first season playing together in the Girls U-9B Division of the Westchester Youth Soccer League. They completed the season with a victory over the Rye Seahawks, 2-0, on Saturday, June 21st.

The final game, like the season as a whole, was full of excitement for the Pumas, who were able to secure the win to preserve their undefeated status. Although the Pumas controlled play during the first half of the game, several good scoring attempts were turned aside by the Seahawks’ strong goaltending, leaving the score 0-0 at the half. In the second half, however, the Pumas finally broke through to score their two game-winning goals.

According to their coaches, the Blue Pumas achieved their undefeated status as a result of solid teamwork combined with determination and tough play. Their defense allowed only 5 goals over the course of the 8 games played this spring. In conjunction with a strong offensive effort that yielded 18 goals during the season, the Blue Pumas proved to be unstoppable.

Ruby Engel's daughter is a member of the Blue Pumas.
