LMC-TV Celebrates Silver

(June 6, 2008) "It's about the dream!" announced Austin Kerhle, host of the live broadcast of Larchmont Mamaroneck Community Television's (LMC-TV) 19th Annual Award Show and Silver Anniversary Celebration. And it was a night about dreams – and competition. There were 15 community produced television programs nominated in three categories - Best Single Program, Best New Program and Best Series Program. Who would break away from the pack to earn the LMC-TV Award?

The head-rocking reggae beat of the three-piece Dizzy Midgets band spilled out from the stage into the hallway of Mamaroneck's Emelin Theatre as silver clad nominees crowded the award show's red carpet. Dena Schumacher, LMC-TV's 19th Annual Award Show producer, had arranged for many of the nominees and presenters to wear silver in honor of LMC-TV's 25th year of community service. Camera's flashed. Film rolled. Community producers shined as they "talked-up" their programs with red carpet hosts Mike Witsch and Amy Schactel.

The Winners!

"Thank you, I'm working," noted a surprised Silvania Azevedo as she accepted the first honor of the night, the 2008 LMC-TV Volunteer of the Year award. Ms. Azevedo was so busy working in the capacity of volunteer photographer for the event, she couldn't believe they had called her name.

Remy Litvin, winner of the Val Estabrook Award for Outstanding Work in School Video, noted his award was confirmation that he was following in the footsteps of his brother – a previous LMC-TV honoree.

LMC-TV Best New Series Award went to Dr. Marian Margulies for “Conversations with Dr. Marian.” Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Kathleen Savolt presented the honor to Dr. Margulies. Town of Mamaroneck Supervisor,Valerie Moore O'Keeffe presented the Best Series Award to “Hands on Gardening” producer Lake Charles. Village of Larchmont Mayor Liz Feld handed the Best Single Program Award to Esteban Comuzzi for the Hispanic Resource Center Art Show at Larchmont Gallery.

LMC-TV Board President Mike Charles presented an award to the League of Women Voters, which was accepted by LWV President Christy Derrico (far right), Alice Bloom (center) and Beth Radow.

The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Larchmont and Mamaroneck won the 2008 Mary Anne Sullivan Award for Overall Achievement in Community Television. The LWV also received proclamations by the Westchester County Board of Legislators from Legislator Judith Myers and by the NY State Assembly from Assemblyman George Latimer. Also on hand to honor the League was Mary Anne Sullivan, an LMC-TV founding member and first chair of the LMC-TV Board.

LMC-TV also paid tribute to members of the Larchmont Mamaroneck Tri-Municipal Television Board of Control for their tireless work negotiating new franchise agreements with Cablevision and Verizon.

At the end of the night, perhaps there should have been an extra award. Overall, the show's fast pace coupled with the humor of host Austin Kerhle made LMC-TV's 19th Annual Award Show a Larchmont and Mamaroneck hit.
