Mamaroneck Police Arrest Man For Sex With Youth
by Judy Silberstein
(April 17, 2008) Mamaroneck Village police announced the
arrest on Friday, April 10 of a White Plains man charged with having sexual
contact with a 15-year-old boy on three separate occasions at a Mamaroneck
“health establishment.” The exact location of the health club
has not been revealed in order to protect the identity of the victim.
Following
complaints by the youth and his family, police placed a detective undercover
in the club. “The place was extremely helpful,” said Mamaroneck
police spokesperson Lt. James Gaffney. “They wanted any possible
issue addressed.”
Police accuse Gordon Roberts, 55, of exposing himself “in
a lewd manner” in the presence of the detective on April 2 and on
April 10. Mr. Roberts, who police say had no prior record of arrest, is
charged with three counts of committing a sexual act in the second degree,
a class D felony, and two counts of committing public lewdness, a B misdemeanor.
The felony charge refers to someone over age 18 engaging
in oral or anal sexual contact with someone younger than 15, who is deemed
unable to give consent by virtue of his age. The behavior “was beyond
merely touching someone in an inappropriate manner,” said Lt. Gaffney.
Mr. Roberts faces a maximum of 7 years of imprisonment
on each felony count and a mandatory designation as a sex offender for
ten years, regardless of jail term.
Mr. Gordon Roberts was arraigned on April 11 and sent to
the Westchester County Jail. He had been scheduled to return to court
on Thursday, April 17, for a felony hearing.
