(April 17, 2008) Mamaroneck High School senior Racquel
Lividini, a top attack with the varsity lacrosse team, had no chance to
celebrate when she scored her 100th career goal in the second half of
a game against Rye on Tuesday, April 16. It was a tight contest, and Coach
John Savage didn’t want the team to lose focus.
The strategy worked: “We won with one minute to spare,”
said Racquel. The score was 14-13, and Racquel ended the afternoon with
102 career goals. “She had 5 goals and two assists for a great game,”
said Coach Savage.

The 100th goal “is a really big milestone,”
said Racquel, 18, who has played varsity lacrosse since her sophomore
year. She estimated that players typically average no more than two goals
per game in a season that runs 12 to 15 games. “It was something
I set to achieve at the beginning of the season. It’s really awesome
to meet that goal.”
“Not only is Raquel a great scorer,” said Coach
Savage, “but she’s constantly helping the team by drawing
double coverage to defend her and then passing the ball to a teammate
to score,” He said she’s a leader both on and off the field.
As one of three team captains, she organizes team dinners and bake sales
and is in charge of “team chemistry.” The team “really
likes each other this year,” said the coach. “They treat each
other as a second family.”
College Bound
Racquel
is a three-sport athlete. “Ice hockey and lacrosse have been my
main sports since I was five,” she said. She’s the goalie
on a year-round ice hockey team, the Sound Shore Warriors, and has also
been goalie for the varsity field hockey team. For next year, however,
she has been committed since November to play lacrosse at Ithaca College.
Was it difficult to choose just one sport? Racquel said
she began her college search open to various possibilities, but soon realized
that college athletics are “very intense.”
“It’s always been both academics and sports
for me – my sports help my academics,” she said. To have time
for academics, she opted to select only one sport – and that was
lacrosse.
“I ended up falling in love with Ithaca – and
there’s no ice hockey there. So that certainly helped my decision,”
she said. “I also really love playing the attack position –
goalie is a nervous position to play.”
The 100th Goal Ball
At the Tuesday game, Coach Savage retrieved the “100th
goal ball” and has something special planned for it.
For now, though, there’s the rest of the lacrosse
season to go. The team is 4-1-1. “I’m looking forward to a
great season, “ said Racquel.
