MARY CLARKE BOPP

Mary Clarke Bopp, a longtime resident of Larchmont, died peacefully at the Sound Shore Medical Center on November 30, 2007 at the age of 87. She was born in Wilmington, NC on March 31, 1920 to Malcolm Douglas and Isabel Hinnant Clarke and was the oldest of three children. The family moved to Washington, DC while she was in high school.

During WWII Mary worked at the Army Quartermaster Corps, where she met her future husband, Walter S. Bopp. She subsequently worked at Hogan and Hartson, a prominent Washington law firm. Mary and Walter Bopp were married on August 14, 1943 at St. Albans Chapel in Washington. They settled in Larchmont in 1950, where they have lived for the past 57 years.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Walter, and by her four loving children and their spouses: daughter Karen and husband Elliott McEntee, daughter Linda and husband Gene Orsenigo, son Walter and wife Marguerite, and son Peter and partner Scott Bistayi. She took great pride and joy in her seven grandchildren: Meredith and Christine McEntee, John and Katie Orsenigo, and Caroline, Margaret, and Lillian Bopp. She is also survived by her sister, Isabel Clarke Frazee, and her three nieces Barbara Frazee Farmer, Kim Clarke Sailo, and Kady Clarke Hillman. She was predeceased by her brother, Malcolm Douglas Clarke Jr.

Mary was active in many local organizations. She was a member of the League for Service at the New Rochelle Hospital for 40 years, and was active with the Woman's Club, Garden Club, and the PEO. Mary and Walter attended the Larchmont Avenue Church, where she served as a deacon, and were active members of the church's Doublet Club.

For the past 15 years, Mary and Walter's greatest happiness came from gathering their entire family for a week to celebrate their wedding anniversary, starting with their 50th at Pink Beach Club in Bermuda through this past summer's 64th at Lake Mohonk in New Paltz, NY.

A memorial service celebrating Mary's life will be held at the Larchmont Avenue Church on Saturday, December 8 at 11 AM. A reception will immediately follow at the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary's honor to the Larchmont Avenue Church would be appreciated.
