CLIFFORD V. SMITHClifford V. Smith, World Was II veteran, died on November 26, 2007; he was 95. He was predeceased by wife of 65 years Eudolia ("Dolie") Jean Haight Smith and sisters, Gladys D'Antonio and Ruth Duernberger."CV" grew up in New Rochelle, NY and as a teenager was hired by Norman Rockwell as a model for the cover of the Saturday Evening Post magazine. CV attended Fordham Business College and the Phoenix Art Institute. CV served in the Army during WWII assigned to the 110th Infantry Regiment. He was injured and captured in the Battle of the Ardennes, receiving the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and other medals. He was a POW until the end of the war. CV also participated in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central European Campaigns. Following WWII, CV and his wife moved to Larchmont, NY and were original residents of Elkan Park. He worked for the New Rochelle Water Company as an accountant and retired as Chief Financial Officer. He is survived by nephews, Paul Duernberger of Seattle, WA; John Duernberger of Belle, W VA; Richard D'Antonio of VA; William D'Antonio of New York; and Dave D'Antonio of New York, and their families.
