DOROTHY McCABE DOLAN
Dorothy McCabe Dolan died peacefully on October 25, 2007 at 93 years of
age. She was the beloved wife of the late John, and the cherished and admired
mother of Joan, Richard (Linda Friedman), Jennifer (Robert Waldman), and
Paul (JoAnn). Loving grandmother to Josh (Andrea Keisler) and Kate Waldman,
Chris and Anne Buechl, Sarah, Elizabeth, James, Peter, and Thomas Dolan.
Great-grandmother to Eli Waldman. Dorothy was born in Brooklyn. After graduating from Brooklyn College, she had a business career at Parents’ Magazine prior to her long-time career as an educator. She earned two Master’s Degrees while raising four children. As a teacher and guidance counselor, she personified a love of learning and commitment to her students in the classroom and beyond. She taught English at JHS 189 and Francis Lewis HS and was the Guidance Chair at Francis Lewis HS. She was also Assistant Principal for Guidance at Beach Channel HS in Far Rockaway. Her years in retirement were spent in Connecticut. She continued her passion for helping others, teaching Italian courses to her fellow residents at Heritage Village in Southbury, doing volunteer work at Waterbury Hospital, and recording for Books for the Blind. The family had many active, happy hours in the beauty of the countryside she so enjoyed, and in the warm, loving home she created wherever she lived. We will carry with us always the endless love she gave us, the life lessons she taught us, and the rich, happy times we all shared. Wake and funeral at the Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont, NY. Wake Friday, October 26, 6:30-9:00 PM; funeral Saturday October 27, 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Northwest Indian College, Bellingham, WA or Westchester Hospice. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, NY 10538 (914) 834 0144 www.jjffh.com |
