EVERETT BOVARD
Professor Everett Bovard, long time Larchmont resident, passed away peacefully
at the age of 90 on October 22, 2007. He was the beloved husband of 64 years
to his wife Shirley (nee Francis), loving father to Jill (Jim) Owens of
Flushing,NY, Meryl of Larchmont, and Everett Jr (Jeannine) of Crown Point,
NY. He was a dedicated and doting grandparent to Juliette, Natalie, Brent,
and Justin, all of Flushing, with whom he played chess, read and told stories,
helped with their home schooling, and shared his love of astronomy, science
and stories from WW II. He was a generous and loving uncle to his nieces
and nephews. Born Nov.11, 1916, Dr. Bovard grew up in Port Chester and Rye, attending Port Chester High School, and Andover Prep. His father was a trial lawyer, and his grandfather was a former pastor of Summerfield Methodist Church in Port Chester, and missionary in Calcutta, India. His mother, Cora Bovard (nee Peck) was a loving, wonderful mother who was dedicated to the well being of her husband, two children, and grandchildren. Dr. Bovard graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University in 1940. After graduation, like many young, American men during the war, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. While serving, he survived a plane crash in England, returning to active duty after a long hospitalization, to fight Hitler. After the war, Dr. Bovard earned a doctorate in psychology from the University of Michigan, pursued post doctoral studies in human brain function at the Montreal Neurological Institute, and subsequently taught neuroanatomy for six years at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In 1967 he joined the faculty of Queensborough Community College, a position he held until his retirement at the age of 85. Since his retirement, Dr. Bovard devoted himself to family, church, and social action projects. He was active in supporting housing for the homeless, serving in a local soup kitchen, tutoring children after school, and serving as a trustee and Elder in his church. Dr. Bovard was known for his compassion, generosity, and service to others. He was a humble man, who shared his deep love for learning, and commitment to those less fortunate with those in his life. Funeral services Monday, October 29 at 11 am at Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church, Larchmont, N.Y. followed by a luncheon at the church. Internment at 1pm, at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions to World Vision, or HOPE Community Services, New Rochelle, NY would be appreciated. 2080 Boston Post Road Larchmont, NY 10538 (914) 834-0144 www.jjffh.com |
