(May 24, 2007) A local mom and former fashion model is opening a store on Chatsworth Avenue in Larchmont aimed at women like her - sporty moms who enjoy wearing dresses. Clotilde - The Dress Shop will sell dresses created and designed by Kristin Clotilde Darnell. As an added bonus, complimentary hem alterations will be included in the purchase of each dress.

Ms. Darnell, who grew up in Larchmont and attended Murray Avenue School and Mamaroneck High School, went on to become a fashion model for various couture houses, including Yves St. Laurent, Givenchy and Chanel. She was the top fashion model for Ralph Lauren through the 1980s. Known as Clotilde, she also appeared in fashion and cosmetic advertising on TV and in print.

Her collection of dresses will be particularly appealing to moms and all women who want to look pretty, she says. She has in mind, “women who are making homes, raising children and who are living the spirit of their families.” She views her clientele as, “Women who are sporty and fun and who would love to wake up in the morning and put on a dress: dresses they can walk kids to school in, meet friends for lunch in, write their novel in, date their husband in, go to the theater in, and have parties in.”

Ms. Darnell stresses that she is not a fashion designer. She is a dressmaker and has made her dresses “comfy and groovy with a relaxed look …dresses that are perfect for all the things women do in real life.” The shop will also sell vintage jewelry and accessories, including belts and shoes to complete an outfit.

Clotilde - The Dress Shop will have its grand opening Memorial Day weekend. It is located in Larchmont at 30 Chatsworth Avenue on the corner of Addison. The number is (914) 834-2400.
