VERA LAFOLLETTE

Vera LaFollette, 71, of Mamaroneck, NY, died on October 17, 2006. Beloved wife of the late Joseph LaFollette, whom she met while working at IBM Corporation in Armonk.

A native New Yorker and avid sailor, she lived most of her life in Mamaroneck, but had recently spent seven years in Kilmarnock, VA, where she was Chair of the Lancaster County Democratic Committee and a member of the Virginia Democratic Party Central Committee. Vera was a legislative intern to Delegate W. Tayloe Murphy, Jr. and served as legislative aide and campaign treasurer for Delegate Albert C. Pollard, Jr. of the Virginia General Assembly.

She gave her time to numerous causes and organizations, including providing education opportunities to minority and at-risk youth by helping to found College Careers in White Plains, helping to found the Neighborhood Advisory Committee for the Young Adult Institute Group Home in Mamaroneck, helping to create and charter the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock, and volunteering at Rappahannock General Hospital.

She is survived by her sons, James (Marlborough, MA), and Kevin (Mamaroneck, NY), by her daughters-in-law Ann and Stacey, and by her grandchildren, Bernadette, Joseph, Timothy, and Nicholas LaFollette, as well as her sisters Barbara, Jackie, and Eileen and her brother Julian, and brothers-in-law George, Michael, and Joseph, and sister-in-law Rose.
