JEAN S. TANNEY
Jean S. Tanney, a long-time resident of the Larchmont, passed away
peacefully at her home on Monday, October 2, 2006. Jean had fought
courageously against cancer. Born in New York City on September 18,
1926, to Rita (Selz) and Monroe H. Sander, she attended school in
Manhattan, graduated from Centenary Junior College in 1946 and married
Harold R. Tanney (Captain, USAF) on October 9, 1947.
Shortly after her marriage, they moved to Larchmont where they lived for
more than 50 years and raised three children. Jean was active in the
schools where she tutored reading and gave of her time unselfishly to
VISIONS an organization for the Blind.
Above all, Jean loved her family and friends. If there were ever a need,
she was always the first one to lend support and a smile. She was the
beloved wife of the late Harold, special and devoted mother of Michael
(Billie Jean), Douglas, and Ted (Gina), doting and adoring grandmother of
Steven, Michael, Sandy and Eddie. Best friend of her sister, Nan Safran,
wonderful aunt and great aunt to her nieces and nephews. Jean will be
missed by those who knew her.
Services Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Larchmont Temple, 75 Larchmont Avenue,
12 noon. Donations to VISIONS, 500 Greenwich St., 3rd Floor, NYC 10013,
Attention: Natalia Young would be appreciated.
