HARVEY CHRISTOPHER "CHRIS" CHRISTIE
Harvey Christopher “Chris” Christie, 86, a resident of Larchmont for 58 years,
passed away August 24. Born July 13, 1920 in the Bronx, NY to Max and Julia.
Educated in New York Public schools. Attended Michigan State University.
Served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1941 to 1945 [stationed in Alaska,
Greenland, and Scotland.]
He married Aveline Dillon on October 30, 1948 at St. Angela Church in the
Bronx. They settled in Larchmont in 1949. After early careers in merchandising
and hotel management at the Plaza, he began his career in advertising. He
worked in advertising with Walter Forma Assoc. before forming his own
corporation, where he represented Harold Becker, Art Beck and many leading
photographers of his day. In addition, Chris also appeared in many of the
ads as well. A workaholic all his life, he loved advertising and retired
reluctantly in 1996.
An active member of Sts. John and Paul Parish, he was Scoutmaster of Troop
5 and served on the Boy Scout Council. An avid baseball fan and player in
his youth, he coached the Larchmont Lions Babe Ruth team for several years
and won many championships. He enjoyed watching the NY Giants (baseball) and
Mets, NY Rangers hockey, and NY Giants football. He loved dancing, the
Broadway theatre, and playing duplicate bridge and bridge on his morning
commute.
Above all, he loved his family, his wife Aveline and their nine children:
Ave (husband Steven Leslie), Jeanne Marie (who died in infancy), Diane,
Jack (wife Erin), Mary Claire (husband Ron Grant), Julie, Grace (husband
Jack Devine), Christopher (wife Meredith), and Patty (husband Jonathan
Davies). He is survived by 17 grandchildren: Bryan, Christopher, Timothy,
Christie, and Stephen Leslie; Fiona and Truman Christie; Nicolas and Kimberly
Grant; Matthew, Kelly, Erin and Jack Devine; Dillon and Nathaniel Christie;
and James and Emily Davies. He is also survived by two sisters, Lenora and
Evelyn.
We will miss his intense energy and humor. He was always our director of
operations and always there for us when needed.
Visiting Sunday, August 27 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Fox Funeral Home in
Larchmont. Mass Monday, August 28 at 11 am, at Sts. John and Paul Church in
