JOSEPH J. GERMANI

Joseph J. Germani, a lifelong resident of Mamaroneck, died Tuesday, July 4th, 2006 at age 89. Joe was born on March 3, 1917 to the late Antonio and Giuseppa (Morroco) Germani. He served in the army from 1942 to 1946.

Joe and his wife Fran owned and operated the Hillside Deli, the closest thing in suburban Mamaroneck to the old fashioned country store. Joe was a great lover of golf and community service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Mamaroneck School Board.

In 1991 Joe was presented the Volunteer Recognition Award for 30 years of service to the Doral Open Benefit Tournament in Miami, Florida. He was Golf Director for the Greenwich Pro-Am Golf Tournaments from 1977 to 1998. He was responsible for recruiting the professional golfers who made a pilgrimage each year to Tamarack Country Club after the Westchester Classic in Harrison. In those years Pro-Am raised over 1.5 million and Joe will be remembered as a reliable source of support to charitable groups in the area.

Joe was founder of the Village and Town Recreation Department Golf Tournaments and the creator of Mamaroneck's Mini Classic for the Youth, held at Saxon Woods Golf Course in Scarsdale. Joe organized and recruited the professional golfers and prizes for the tournament which now bears his name.

He was the beloved husband of 61 years of Fran (nee Lancia) and is also survived by many devoted nieces and nephews. Reposing on Thursday evening, July 6 from 6 to 9 pm at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME, 767 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck.
