REGINA C. BERENBACK

Berenback Regina C. Berenback (nee Furnari), 53, of Ferry Lane, Barrington, died April 14 at Miriam Hospital after a lengthy fight against pancreatic cancer. Born in the Bronx, New York, she was the only child of the late Joseph and Marie Furnari (Bellizzi). Regina graduated from St. Catherine Academy in the Bronx, New York in 1969, and received a B.A degree in 1973 from Lehman College of the City University of New York, graduating with high honors (magna cum laude) and elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She received an M.A. from Fordham University in 1978.

The Berenbacks lived in Barrington since 1996, having resided prior to that from 1978 until 1996 in Larchmont, New York. Mrs. Berenback worked since 1998 at Brown University as a Grant Proposal Administrator for the Bio/Med Research Administration. Prior to that, she worked for a brief time in real estate for the Barrington office of Century 21. Prior to moving to Rhode Island, she worked for several years in the Registrar’s Office of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York as an advisor to students and for many years in the Education Department of the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, New York.

Mrs. Berenback was a deacon at Barrington Congregational Church, UCC, where she headed the Social Action and Justice Team. She was a member of the Barrington Yacht Club. She was active in the PTA of Hampden Meadows School, Barrington Middle School, and Barrington High School. She had been active for many years in the Larchmont League of Women Voters and she had been a member of the Board of Trustees of Larchmont Avenue Church (Presbyterian).

Above all else, she was a beloved and devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Steven Berenback, two daughters, Alison and Emily Berenback , and son, James Berenback, all of Barrington, RI. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Linda Yesko, of Mamaroneck, NY and her mother-in-law, Thelma Berenback, of Yonkers, NY.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 AM a.m. at the Barrington Congregational Church, UCC, 461 County Road, Barrington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name to the Barrington Congregational Church would be appreciated. Visit, www.smithmason.com
