ALICE M. VANDERNOOT
Alice M. Vandernoot a resident of Larchmont, NY for over 62 years passed
away peacefully at home on April 10, 2006, at the age of 96. She was born
in NY City on September 20, 1909 to Fredolf and Gudrun Olsson. She graduated
from Julia Richmond High School and went to work at Bell Laboratories where she saw the
first demonstration of TV.
Alice married Joseph F. Vandernoot on Feb. 6, 1932. She is survived by her beloved husband
of 74 years and her children, Barbara Betkowski, Alice Sweeney, Mary Cox, Dorothy Lakso,
Gerard and Michael. Alice was predeceased by her two sisters and one brother and son
Joseph Peter. She was lovingly known as “Darling” to her 22 grandchildren and 16 great
grandchildren.
Alice was a CCD teacher at St. Augustine’s and was the head of the sewing group which
benefits cancer patients at Rosary Hill Hospital. This group was started over 50 years ago
by Mae Walsh and is now headed by Irene Burne who is Mae’s daughter.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday April 11, 2006 at Fox Funeral Home in
Larchmont, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am at St. Augustine’s Church
on Wednesday April 12, 2006. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu
of flowers, donations to St. Augustine’s Church, 18 Cherry Ave., Larchmont, NY 10538 would
be appreciated.
