ANDREW LAMONT BELL
Andrew LaMont Bell was born on June 2, 1947 in New Rochelle Hospital
in New York, the son of N. LaMont Bell and Rebecca (Becky) Jane Pyatt
Bell, both deceased.
Andy grew up in Larchmont at 8 Locust Avenue and attended Mamaroneck High
School, was a Boy Scout, and loved to swim. Possessed of an impish and
mischievous nature, he was wellknown by all his teachers and schoolmates.
He had the gifts of gab and humor, and a knack for attracting friends
everywhere he went throughout his life. Being an active child as well,
he carried those characteristics into adulthood, living a peripatetic
existence crossing the United States.
Besides New York, Andy lived in Santa Cruz, California, where he worked
for a clothing manufacturer, and met his first wife, Anna. They divorced
and subsequently he tried his hand at various trades, including pipe
fitting in Texas, cooking in South Carolina, and being a roustabout for
the Barnum and Bailey Ringling Brothers Circus.
Andy also lived in
Illinois, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and Alabama, ultimately
landing in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Along the way he met and married Carol
Lemon and they had a daughter, JoHanna, who has Andy's red hair. Andy
and Carol divorced. Andy suffered a fall while talking to a friend and
fell backwards onto his head. Subsequent brain surgery determined that
he suffered from excessive bleeding and massive brain damage. The
doctors put him on life support. His brother, Peter, was with him when
they removed the life support on December 20, 2005.
He is survived by the love of his life, his daughter, JoHanna Megan
Bell, of Winter Park, Florida; his sister, Susan, of East Hampton, New
York; and his brother, Peter, of New York, New York.
