Beth Emeth To Host Israeli Film Fest This Winter
from Beth Emeth
(December 15, 2006) Beth Emeth, Larchmont's Egalitarian Conservative Synagogue, will host an Israeli film festival in January and February 2007. Open to the community, at no charge, the festival will feature three films that offer insight into the social and cultural diversity of Israel and its people.
Those attending are encouraged to bring a donation of canned food for the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Food Bank. Screenings will begin at 8:00 pm. The synagogue is located at 2111 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY.
Movie Bill:
On January 6, 2007, the Festival will open with Kadosh, a film by Amos Gitai. Kadosh is a serious and sensitive drama that is beautifully acted by Yael Abecassis as Rivka, Yoram Hattab as Meir, and Meital Barda as Malka. Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat, authors of Spiritual RX, in their review of Kadosh, wrote: "We are drawn into their strict religious universe where tradition, rules, and regulations leave little room for individuality or the yearnings of the heart."
On January 20, 2007, Nina’s Tragedies will be shown. Directed by Savi Gabizon, this coming of age tale is set among a family that suffers a loss from a terrorist attack. Reviewer Tim Cogshell hails the movie as "a thoughtful and satisfying film of the sort American filmmakers rarely achieve."
On Saturday February 3rd, 2007, Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi will
be aired. Directed by
Shemi Zarhin, Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi is an Israeli
drama that, according to the Brussats, "nicely conveys a sensitive
teenager's awakening to his own special identity and
talents."
On February 10, the final film, Broken Wings, the winner of 9 Israeli Academy Awards in 2002, will be shown. David Sterrit in The Christian Science Monitor praised the movie and said, "Heartfelt acting and a sometimes tragic but ultimately life-affirming story make this an unusually touching Israeli production ."
