Coords Family Makes Gift To Larchmont Library
from the Larchmont Public Library
(December 6, 2006) The Coords family has made a substantial gift to the Larchmont Public Library in memory of their late son, Michael Coords. Michael was eight years old when he was killed by a school bus in December, 2004.
The funds will be used to renovate the Children’s Activity Room, which will be named for Michael. In explaining their decision to make this gift, Robert and Kathleen Coords said:
"Michael loved to read and enjoyed books on many different subjects. He
also enjoyed countless hours spent at the Larchmont Public Library. We
thought the funding of an Activity Room for Children would be a
wonderful way for Michael's friends and classmates to remember him and
for us to thank all of our friends in the Larchmont community for their
support during the past two years."
This announcement follows the Library Board’s recent decision to mount a campaign to renovate and refurbish the entire Children’s Room (see: Larchmont Library Children's Room Will Get Major Redo). “The Library Board is touched and honored to receive the heartfelt gift of the Coords family in memory of their son and will strive to create a space in Michael’s memory that is worthy of the trust the family has placed in us and that will have lasting value for all the children of our community,” said Miriam Curnin, president of the Larchmont Public Library Board of Trustees.
