Gold Devils Finish Soccer Season Undefeated

by Stu Seltzer, Gold Devil Coach

(November 13, 2006) The Larchmont Gold Devils completed an undefeated season in the Under-10 section of the Westchester Junior Soccer League.   The final game was played Sunday, November 12 against one of the toughest teams in the league, the New Rochelle America.

This final game was more tense than others because the players knew this was the last league game until springtime.   "They played hard every minute," commented their coach, Dave Wilson.   The New Rochelle team scored in the first half, putting the Larchmont team’s undefeated season in jeopardy.   However, the Gold Devils did not give up.

In the second half, the Larchmont team played aggressively and continued its strong teamwork and fancy footwork.   With one minute left in the game, the Devils finally scored to tie the game and keep their undefeated record intact.

"In four season games, the kids came back after being down at halftime," said Coach Roland Caputo. "Every game was exciting until the final whistle."

The coaches provided the following assessment. The Larchmont Gold Devils were led by their impenetrable goalkeepers JD Wilson and Christian Wallner. Patrick Murray, Victor Depois and Pierre Laffitte showed aggressive shooting skills. Noah Seltzer and Cole Herlitz-Ferguson were “super fast” chasing down balls and opponents. Anders Caputo was fearless at stopping the New Rochelle offense. Jimmy Bernstein and Jack Green displayed non-stop energy throughout the game. Drew Gallagher and Ryan LeBlanc kept their opponents off balance with their speed and quick taps.

Last week marked the end of the second season for the team.   Last spring the Gold Devils had only a few wins.  Their turnaround and undefeated season this year was a testament to their hard work and training as a team.  "After a full year of training twice a week with Golden Touch, the boys really play well together as a team," commented their coach.

The boys celebrated their season with a pizza party at Larchmont's Villa Maria.
