There's Still Time to Join Town Rec Programs
by Matt Trainor
(October 26, 2006) The Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Department would like to remind all residents of Mamaroneck, Larchmont, and beyond that there is still room in many of the program it operates for children and adults. These programs offer opportunities for everyone in the family to stay active in the fall and winter, and there are multiple options to choose from.
If your child likes the water, there are plenty of possibilities. At the Hommocks Pool, it’s not too late to sign up for classes like Swim Lessons, Mamaroneck Swim Club (competitive), and Aqua Games. All of these programs require a permit for the Hommocks Pool in addition to the program charge.
For "landlubbers" there are numerous other choices. At the Hommocks Park Ice Rink, the House League Hockey program, for children ages 5- 12, still has plenty of openings for residents and non-residents. Pizza Bingo nights (grades 3-5, also open to non-residents) are a fun way for children to spend a Friday night, complete with games, prizes, and PIZZA! Or, if your child enjoys a more athletic activity, Friday Teen/Open Gym nights (grades 6-12) may be of interest.
The Recreation Department is not just for children; there are a number of classes for adults. For both residents and non-residents, there are Adult Fitness, Pilates, Total Body Conditioning, Volleyball, and Men’s Basketball programs that can help you keep healthy, fit, and active and avoid that “Winter Slump.” And, if you are an adult that enjoys fitness activities in the water, there is also Exercise on the Light Side/ Aqua Jogging class at the Hommocks Pool.
If you’d like more information on how to join any of these or our many other recreation programs, call (914) 381-7865, or visit us online at www.townofmamaroneck.org.
