Where is the MHS Class of 2006?

(September 14, 2006) The 2006 graduates from Mamaroneck High School were accepted at 298 different colleges and universities and are now attending 156 schools, a significant increase from previous years in both categories (see: Whither the MHS Class of 2005). Overall, 84% of the class is attending 4-year colleges and 10% is at 2-year schools. (See the complete list of Acceptances and Attendances below.)

The usual fall frenzy of early applications, however, may be changing in the years ahead. Harvard University announced this week that they will end their early action program next year. But until this takes effect and other colleges follow suit (so far, the Universitiy of Delaware is the only one), it will be business as usual for seniors, according to Paul Martin who heads the high school counseling department. That means about 40% of students applying to college will try for early admission again this year.

Guidance counselor Paul Sweeney also does not anticipate immediate changes, but expects the Harvard decision to “force colleges to rethink their early decision or early action policy.” He added, “the elimination of the early decision policy takes some of the strategizing and gaming out of the process and also gives seniors more time to deal with a very important decision.”

National Merit Semi-Finalists

Undoubtedly working on their college applications are the seven seniors who have been named National Merit Semi-Finalists. They are Daniel Carlyon, Robert Cross, Madeleine Lloyd-Davies, David Sadowsky, Rebecca Sobel, Randall Spock, Sophie Wharton.
