Hispanic Center To Be Honored At LMC-TV Award Night, May 25
Also: Center has New Executive Director
by Judy Silberstein
(May 16, 2006) It’s been mostly positive news this week for the Hispanic Resource Center (HRC) of Larchmont and Mamaroneck:
Relations with the Village of Mamaroneck appear to be improving after months of tension following the closing of an official day labor hiring site in Columbus Park that was superivised by a coordinator from the HRC. (Mamaroneck Village & Day Laborers Renew Talks as Federal Suit is Adjourned)
After months of operating without a permanent executive director for the center, the HRC Board has hired Mariana Boneo Lvoff to fill that role. Ms. Lvoff has been operating as the de facto director on a volunteer basis since the previous director left in January. At the beginning of the month, she stepped down as co-president of the HRC Board, and as of last week she officially took on her new duties.
And LMC-TV will be honoring the HRC with its Mary Anne Sullivan Award For Overall Achievement in Community Television at the Seventeenth Annual Award Night to be held at the Emelin Theater in Mamaroneck on Thursday, May 25 beginning at 7 pm.

According to LMC-TV’s announcement, “Since March of 2004, the Hispanic Resource Center has produced 11 programs of acute interest to the community with LMC-TV and inspired many others.” Ms. Lvoff has been co-hosting the show with Franklin Velazquez, but will now step aside to focus on her new job at the HRC. “There are only so many hours in the day,” she said with a laugh. Mr. Velazquez will continue, probably with a new co-host or guest hosts.
The Mary Anne Sullivan Award is named for one of the founding
members of LMC-TV. In the past, the award has gone to local organizations,
including The Mamaroneck Historical Society (2001), The Junior League
of Westchester on the Sound (1999) and the French Welcome Service of Larchmont
(1992). Individuals have also received the award, including Westchester
County Legislator Judy Myers (2005), television host Alice Bloom (2003)
and former Village of Larchmont Trustee and Mayor Ken Bialo (1997).
Hosting the award night this year will be Dee O'Brien, the Hommocks Middle School teacher and founder/director of the Semi-Royal Shakespeare Theater, and Amy Ralston Seife, producer of the Semi-Royal show. LMC-TV is partnering with the Mamaroneck Chamber of Commerce, whose restaurant members will be donating refreshments for the after-show reception.
The public is welcome to the free show and reception. For further information call 381-2002.
