Gazette Creators To Receive LMC-TV “Sunny” Award

by Louise Lynch, LMC-TV Board Member

(November 2, 2005) LMC-TV, the public access television station serving Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Rye Neck, has selected Larchmont Gazette founders Paula Eisenberg and Judy Silberstein to receive this year’s “Sunny” Award. The station cited the weekly electronic newspaper’s role in connecting the community, increasing access to news and other local information, and providing a high-tech forum for old-fashioned speechifying. The Gazette is “where the town meeting meets the Internet,” stated LMC-TV Board President Michael Charles, “and we are all the richer for it.”

The Sunny Award -- named for Sunny Goldberg, former LMC-TV Board President and its first recipient -- annually honors individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Larchmont-Mamaroneck community. Last year’s recipient was Dee O’Brien, Hommocks teacher and founder of the three-decades-running Semi-Royal Shakespeare Company. “This year, as we talked about the award and major contributions to the community, we realized that the Larchmont Gazette has had a transforming effect,” said Mr. Charles. “In a surprisingly short time, it’s become almost indispensable.” He noted that most 21st century Westchester residents spend an increasing amount of time in front of the computer, which can be isolating. “But Judy and Paula are using the Internet to bring us closer as a community. They saw that need and filled it.”

Ms. Eisenberg and Ms. Silberstein will officially receive their award at the annual LMC-TV Sunny Awards fundraiser, on Sunday, December 4, at 4 pm, at a cocktail reception at the Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club. The event is open to the entire community, and promises “games and fine times.”

For further information or to inquire about tickets call LMC-TV Board Member Janet Bear at 914 833-3695 or LMC-TV at 381-2002 x201.
