Local Candidates Face-Off at LWV Forum: October 25
by Judy Silberstein; forum information from the Larchmont/Mamaroneck LWV
(October 20, 2005) With election day fast approaching, the League of Women Voters of Larchmont/Mamaroneck is sponsoring its traditional candidates’ forum for local races on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:30 pm in the Village of Mamaroneck Courtroom at 169 Mt. Pleasant Avenue. Because this year all of the Town of Mamaroneck candidates are running unopposed, the focus is on races in the Village of Mamaroneck and for the Westchester County Legislature from District 7.
County District 7
Judy Myers, a Democrat and the incumbent Westchester County Legislator since February of this year, will be facing Donald March, a New York City educator and Village of Mamaroneck GOP district leader. Prevailing in a short but intense race against Republican Rye City Councilman Franklin Chu earlier this year, Ms. Myers, on the Town of Mamaroneck Board of Trustees since 1999, earned the right to step in for George Latimer, following his election to the NY State Assemblyman.
However, now, there is a new election to fill a complete two-year term. To date, this race has been very quiet and the LWV forum may be the first opportunity for most voters to see the candidates in action.
Village of Mamaroneck
The Village of Mamaroneck race for mayor pits the incumbent, Phil Trifiletti, a Republican, against Bob Kelly, a Democrat currently on the Rye Neck School Board. For the open trustee seat, GOP incumbent William J. Paonessa is facing Elizabeth Saenger, a Democrat. The forum will start with the trustee candidates at 7:30; the mayoral candidates at 8:10; and the county legislator candidates at 8:40.
Forum Times & Questions
Voters are invited to attend and may ask questions, which must be submitted to the moderator in writing before the debates. The League will accept questions until 7:30 pm for the Village of Mamaroneck candidates and until 8:10 pm for the County Legislative candidates. The questioner
must be present for the moderator to use a question in the forum.
The forum will be taped by LMC-TV beginning at 7:30 pm and will be rebroadcast on
Channels 75 and 76 until Election Day, November 8, 2005. For further information contact LMC at 381-2002 or www.LMC-TV.org
