Scare Fair Bringing New Treats, Old Favorites: Sun. Oct 30
by Jenny Moskowitz
(October 20, 2005) Hankering for VIP passes to Total Request Live, or a day with State Senator Suzie Oppenheimer? Or how about golf at the Hampshire Country Club or an original piece of Shona African art from Zimbabwe? These and other new buyable treats will be featured this year at the Central School Scare Fair along with the rides, games, food and music that attract crowds each year to this traditional fall gathering.
The Parent Teachers Association is once again the sponsor of the event, open free to the public on Sunday October 30 from 12 to 4 pm. The annual fair is the largest event coordinated by the Central PTA and involves hundreds of parent, teacher and student volunteers. Student alumni return to help, incuding those in the teen band that drew a lot of attention last year.

Central School graduates Zach Goldstein, on base, Danny Cohen, on drums, and Rob Hanley, on guitar, kept the crowds jazzed up at last year's Scare Fair. More music is on tap for this year.
This year’s Scare Fair will include several fast-paced rides such as Go Karts and Twin Spin as well as the always popular Batting Cage and Candyland. There will be numerous games; art, and activity booths; and a separate Kiddyland room with activities for younger children. Food and beverages will be for sale outside, and an assortment of home-baked goodies will be available indoors at the “Country Kitchen.” New hits from last year are back again, such as, Toilet Toss, Quarterback Throw, and Beanie Bash.
The Scare Fair is also the major fundraising initiative sponsored by the Central PTA, and there are a number of ways for families to participate at all levels. This year’s Silent Auction which promises to be the largest ever, will be held inside the main auditorium (LGI). There, community members will be able to bid on tickets to arts and sporting events, spa treatments, restaurant gift certificates and much more, with the proceeds going to support Central School. The fair will also feature raffles for bountiful grade level theme baskets and chances to go to lunch with a favorite teacher.
"The Scare Fair has a long tradition at Central School,” said PTA Co-President Joyce Tichy. “It brings smiles to our students, their families and the entire community every year. The spooky Halloween theme carries through the games and activities, and when combined with the enthusiastic participation of its attendees on a crisp early autumn afternoon, it seems that it can't help but make for a genuinely fun family event."
