Sts. John & Paul Host "Halloweekend Festival” Oct 28 & 29

Dance, Race, Pumpkin Patch, Movie + Chance to Win $35K BMW

by Barbara Gallagher

running logo(October 12, 2005) Saints John and Paul Church parishioners and friends will be “Running Scared” at their first annual “Halloweekend Festival” on October 28 and October 29. A huge committee of volunteers has been working all summer to put together a series of activities for the entire community. The weekend kicks off with a “Haunted Dance” for junior high-aged kids in the school auditorium on Friday evening, October 28, from 7 to 10 pm. Then there’s a full morning of activities scheduled for Saturday from 8:00 to 11:30 am, including: a pancake breakfast (9 to 11:30 am); the “Running Scared” 5K run and one mile walk (10 am); and a Pumpkin Patch with pony rides and carnival games from 8 to 11:30 am.

Following a break (leaving time for youngsters to attend the Ragamuffin Parade that starts at noon in the Village of Larchmont), everyone is invited back to a free “drive-in” movie (actually, a “walk-in” outdoor event) in the Sts. John and Paul parking lot at 7:30 pm. The dramatic finale of the weekend is a raffle drawing for a 2006 BMW 3 Series sedan from Pace BMW in Mamaroneck.

A $100 raffle ticket earns a chance to win this $35,000 BMW.

Only 1000 tickets were issued for the raffle and as of Wednesday, October 12, there were only 300 tickets left. Each $100 ticket provides a chance to win the $35,000 BMW.

To purchase a ticket: drop by the Sts. John and Paul office (280 Weaver Street in Larchmont) betwen 9 and 5. Or mail a check for $100 payable to Sts. John and Paul; put your name, address and phone number on the front. The ticket will be mailed to you; you do not need to be at the drawing to win.

All events are open to the public. Registration for the “Running Scared” 5K race is required and the entrance fee is $25 until the day of the run and $30 on October 29. Fees for the other activities vary and all funds raised from the weekend go to the church.

Free parking and free continuous shuttle bus service for the Saturday festival and movie events will be available at the Town Parking lot on Myrtle Boulevard across from “Plates” Restaurant from 7:45 a.m. to 12 noon in the morning and again from 4:30 to 11:00 pm that evening.

For more information on all of the “Halloweekend Festival activities,” including how to register on-line for the “Running Scared” 5K run and one mile walk, and/or how to purchase BMW raffle tickets, visit www.sjpchurch.org or call 834-5458.
