It’s the Great Pumpkin Patch at St. Thomas
Fifth Annual Community Pumpkin Patch Welcomes Families
by Sarah Duffy Edwards
(October 6, 2005) With the sound of leaves crunching underfoot and the feel of crispness in the fall air, St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Mamaroneck will open its fifth annual Community Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, October 8, 2005. There will be more than 2,000 pumpkins in the patch, making it a perfect place to stop for fun that includes picking just the right pumpkin, taking great family photos (think holiday cards) and enjoying baked goods made by area bakers.
Open 10 am to 5 pm every day for the rest of October, the patch will be stocked with pumpkins grown on the Navaho Reservation in New Mexico and Arizona.
Partners in this year’s Community Pumpkin Patch include St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Mamaroneck and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Larchmont. Together, the partners will distribute the entire proceeds from the pumpkin sale to area nonprofit organizations, the Navaho Reservation and to Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts in the Gulf Coast. In the past four years, Community Pumpkin Patch has raised more than $30,000 for noteworthy organizations.
Admission to the patch is free; prices of the pumpkins and gourds of all sizes begin as low as $1.00 for mini-pumpkins. Along with the pumpkins, seasonal baked goods will be available for sale the weekend of October 8 and 9th.
Sarah Duffy Edwards is a member of St. Thomas and a Larchmont resident.
