Town Sets Moratorium On Commercial Signage, Finalizes Colonial Avenue Parking Restrictionsbu Harriet Kline (September 21, 2005) Boston Post Road signage and parking restrictions in the Murray Avenue school area dominated the agenda at the September 21 meeting of the Mamaroneck Town Board. Signage MoratoriumThe board has received a number of complaints recently about the illuminated signs in newly opened retail businesses along the Boston Post Road. In order to study the existing situation and the impact of its “Design Requirements” (enacted last year), the board voted to impose a moratorium on all illuminated signage for a period of six months to expire at the end of March 2006. Councilman Ernie Odierna cast the only “nay” vote on the moratorium resolution. Colonial Avenue Parking RestrictionsDrop-off and pickup traffic congestion in the Murray Avenue school area has been the subject of a number of Traffic Committee and Town Board meetings for some time. Some residents have proposed the building of sidewalks along Colonial Avenue. According to Councilman Paul Winick, other residents have objected to this proposal. Last night, after a lengthy public discussion, board members voted unanimously to restrict parking along the north side of Colonial Avenue from Daymon Terrace to 87 Colonial Avenue. These restrictions will be in place from 8 am to 9 am and from 2 pm to 3:30 pm on school days only. Colonial Avenue residents Kate Beeby and Nathaniel Allen voiced support for the new restrictions but Barry Hart of 91 Colonial Avenue warned that only the addition of sidewalks on Colonial Avenue would improve what he called a “dangerous situation.” Town Satellite Office to Open September 26Long-time residents fondly remember the newsstand at the intersection of Myrtle Boulevard and North Chatsworth Avenue. The Town of Mamaroneck has recently built a more permanent structure and will officially open it as a satellite office on Monday, September 26. The “kiosk” will be staffed from 3 pm to 6:45 pm, Monday through Friday. The satellite office will offer all town forms and applications, provide information about town services, and possibly provide a police presence. Upcoming Board MeetingsThe next regularly scheduled meetings of the board will be held Thursday, October 6 and Wednesday October 19 at 8:15 pm. The work sessions held prior to these meetings are open to the public and are held at 5 pm in conference room A.
