Peridot Jewelry Goes to the Tonys

by Joan R. Simon

lisa(May 30, 2005) Two award-winning actresses from the Broadway hit The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee were in Larchmont last week selecting bobbles from Peridot Fine Jewelry at 134 Larchmont Ave. to wear to the Tony Award ceremony on Sunday, June 5. Lisa Howard, who plays Rona Lisa Peretti (in photo at right), and Sarah Saltzberg, who plays Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre, both received Drama Desk Awards last month for Outstanding Ensemble performances in Spelling Bee, which has been nominated for a Tony in the best musical category.

Helping Ms. Peretti and Ms. Saltzberg select the right adornment for their Tony outfits was Peridot Jewelry owner Dawn Hendricks and Larchmont theater producer Barbara Whitman.

Ms. Whitman and fellow Larchmonter Ruth Hendel will also be keeping their fingers crossed on Sunday night for the Tony-nominated musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels which they are both producing. Scoundrel’s John Lithgow and Norbert Leo Butz have both been nominated for Leading Actor in a Musical. Ms. Hendel is also involved this season with Steel Magnolias, starring Delta Burke, Marsha Mason and Christine Ebersole.

Both producers have experienced Tony success in recent years and are hoping for repeats. (See: "Four Tony Awards for Larchmont Producers.)
