MAS Fifth Graders Wash Cars, Net $1500 for Cancer Group
by Joan R. Simon
(June 16, 2004) Over $1500 was raised last Saturday
by forty hard working Mamaroneck Avenue School fifth graders
who washed cars all day on June 12 to earn money for the Pediatric
Cancer Foundation. Fifth grader Erika Doomes, who spearheaded
the event, was happy with the results: “The car wash
was a fun experience. Doing something for other people felt
good. It makes you think about not being selfish.”

“I am very proud of our fifth graders,” declared
Principal Carrie Amon. The students wrote and distributed
fliers and planned the event themselves. “They had a
great time and learned a life lesson on doing for others,"
she said.
