Student Aid Awards 37 Scholarships for Two Years

by Jackie Purcell & Janet Bear of the M//L Student Aid Fund

Awards & Recipients Listed Below

(July 1, 2004) Thirty-seven Mamaroneck High School seniors will be heading for college in September with scholarships from the Mamaroneck-Larchmont Student Aid fund. They received their awards in a ceremony at the MHS PACE auditorium on June 14, as their families and friends, teachers and administrators cheered their accomplishments.

The Student Aid fund is a community-based, volunteer group that raises funds and provides scholarships for students graduating from MHS and attending college. This year for the first time, the scholarships will be extended to two years, with the second year award as large as the first. The organization is committed to providing financial assistance to the graduates and is confident that the community will support this additional effort.

“ A unique and most appealing aspect of the Student Aid Fund is its pure and direct means of helping our graduates,” said Bobbie Flynn, president of the organization. “This is something our contributors can rely on.”

The evening featured remarks from guest speaker Kirk Dietz, who successfully completed college and is now an elementary school teacher. Mr. Dietz graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1995 and received a scholarship from the Student Aid Fund to start his college career. “Work hard on something you value,” he told the MHS graduates
