"Rock for the Park" to Raise Playground $: Mar 6
by Judy Silberstein
(February 26, 2004) No, it’s not a teen rebellion or
a Flintstone get-together. Rock for the Park is an old-fashioned
college
party complete
with beer keg and music being held at the American Legion
in Flint Park on Saturday, March 6 to raise funds for new
playground equipment. The party is open to anyone
over 21, (you don’t want to get carded, do you?) but
space is limited so getting an advanced ticket from the
Flint Park
Conservancy is a good idea.
Plans
are underway for replacing and upgrading the aging playground
at Flint Park. Over ten years old and heavily
used, the playground equipment is due for a change. To that
end, a joint Village-Conservancy Playground Committee has
developed and submitted for Village Board approval recommendations
for new equipment. The plans call for a boat-shaped toddler
play space and various climbers and swings for
the older play set up to fifth grade. (See: Playground
Plans)
These plans are not without a price; the current estimate
is about $125,000. Through the generosity of the community,
the Flint Park Conservancy has raised over half that amount.
A major boost came from Larchmonter John Steigerwald whose
participation in a Florida triathlon netted the playground
approximately $40,000 from the Janus Funds. (See: Ironman
Earns Over $40K for Playground)
Now comes Rock for the Park which is designed for fun – and
fundraising. Tickets are $75 per person and are available
by emailing kortlandtbunch@optonline.net or sending a letter
and check for the tickets to Flint Park Conservancy, P.O.
Box 918, Larchmont, New York 10538.
