Question the Candidates: I

1. What are the two most pressing issues
facing Larchmont, and what are your plans to address them? Our major challenge is to maintain Village services when
every level of government is feeling financial pressure.
We cannot afford to be short-sighted by cutting back on services
like the Library—though perhaps not as “essential” as
police or firemen, extremely important nevertheless. Rather,
we must innovate and find other ways to save, by, for example,
expanding the use of volunteers for the Village website instead
of paying consultants, as the current administration is considering.
Another critical issue is the threat of sprawl and over-development.
It is high time we adopt zoning laws to adequately protect
our community.
2. Expand on one of these issues or another issue of your choice.
On non-economic matters, the Trustees are the guardians of
Larchmont’s “Quality of Life” through open and "transparent" governance.
Zoning code review, the Flint Park renovations, possible open space
acquisition, and the chance to join the Greenway are all significant
opportunities to intelligently and creatively maintain and improve
our community life. With my past experience as Trustee, time will
not be lost to learning on the job; I can immediately focus on
the issues and on keeping our residents informed, welcoming their
participation, and promoting cooperation with our neighboring communities
to preserve and enhance life in our Village. . |
