Election 2003 in the Village of Larchmont:

The campaigns will be supplying all of the materials appearing on these pages.

Question the Candidates: I

Mike Wiener

1. What are the two most pressing issues facing Larchmont, and what are your plans to address them?

Our safety and welfare must be of highest priority. Public safety has many facets: fire and traffic safety, crime prevention, building and health codes and anti-terrorism precautions. In the past year, the Village has held special emergency drills, and pressed for tri-municipal discussions. We must continue to plan and train for contingencies at a local level, as well as step up emergency preparedness at the regional level. My experience in this area will help ensure that Village is prepared.

Budget, of course, is always a concern, particularly this year. We must recognize the extra tax burdens being placed on residents from the school district and county, but we cannot lose sight of our environmental challenges.

2. Expand on one of these issues or another issue of your choice.

The environment is of special interest to me. We must follow through on major concerns such as Phase II Storm Water regulations, open space, flooding control, and thruway noise. Zoning code review, business district cleanup and inter-municipal cooperation through regional groups like LISWIC are examples of how the current board and I have already addressed these issues. We must also support the work of the new Village Environmental Committee in addressing even mundane but troublesome matters such as dry weather water flow onto Village streets.
