Election 2003 in the Village of Larchmont:

The campaigns will be supplying all of the materials appearing on these pages.

Question the Candidates: I

Phil Johanson

1. What are the two most pressing issues facing Larchmont, and what are your plans to address them?

1. A priority issue facing Larchmont is determining where, overall, our long-term capital investments should be made. To maintain and enhance the aesthetics of the community, and our property values, we must be willing to invest in our infrastructure. As Trustee, I would look at the cost/benefit and opportunity cost analyses to prioritize those projects that would benefit Larchmont the most.

Tied directly to this is the proposed expansion and renovation to Flint Park, one of our Village’s finest natural assets. This project could increase playing fields for our children, develop an environmental area with an ample path along the water, and add some parking. As a youth who grew up in Flint Park, a father raising four young children, and a multi-sport coach I bring unique insight to the many park uses.

2. Expand on one of these issues or another issue of your choice.

2. Focusing on the future of Larchmont also means focusing on our youths. As a Cub Scout Leader for seven years I have seen the power of coordinated activities in channeling the energy and talent of our children. With teen drinking on the rise and job opportunities slim for our teenagers, the Village needs to take a leadership role in providing as many opportunities as we can for the next generation.
