Anne McAndrews
Ideal Candidate for Village Board

FROM THE PARTY CAUCUS:

Democratic Candidates Bring Experienced, Effective Leadership to Larchmont

Anne McAndrews, Geoff Young and Jerry Bernstein, the Democratic candidates for office in Larchmont Village, share stellar qualities. They are each keenly familiar with the challenges of the offices they seek in the March 18 election, having previously served in them very effectively. Further, they share an extensive history of community service in Larchmont and a sensitive understanding of their neighbors’ needs and concerns.

“Larchmont would be well served by these fine individuals, we sincerely hope they will win the majority vote in March,” party co-chair Carol Miller asserts.

Anne McAndrews
Ideal Candidate for Village Board

Nominating Speech by Incumbent Trustee, Marlene Kolbert
Democratic Caucus, January 28

Three years ago, looking for a candidate for Village Trustee, I approached a citizen with the ideal credentials for that position. She had devoted her volunteer life to good government and had served several terms as President of the League of Women Voters and had chaired countless committees that sought to find ways to improve the functioning of the village of Larchmont, Town of Mamaroneck, Mamaroneck school district.

That ideal candidate was, of course, Anne McAndrews who ran with Ned Benton for trustee and Cheryl Lewy for Mayor. Aided by the many fans of Anne McAndrews in Larchmont Village, the Democrats ran a very strong campaign and all three Democratic candidates were elected. With only one term under her belt as Trustee, Anne stepped up to the plate in 2002 to oppose the 11-year trustee for the Mayor’s slot.

When nominating a candidate for office one usually runs down their CV. But we all know of Anne’s many accomplishments. Instead of that, I’m going to tell you why we need Anne McAndrews on the Board of Trustees of the Village of Larchmont.
The current Board is working on many projects. Here is a partial list:

• 2020 Task Force Report proposals – Anne was a member of the Board which appointed the Task Force.

• Shepherding the SSO (Sanitary Sewage Overflow) through the building phase – Anne was a member of the Board which worked on dealing with the planning for the SSO.

• Flint Park – We are currently looking at plans proposed by Monroe Eberlin, our Flint Park consultant. During Anne’s term, the Board began the serious consultations with Monroe Eberlin which culminated in the these plans.

• Streetscape – Plans to improve the streetscape on Chatsworth Avenue between Boston Post Road and Addison Street are almost complete and we hope to begin construction this summer. Cherbuliez/Munz worked with the Board while Anne was a trustee to begin the planning for this project.

• CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) – Surveys needed to help us complete our $150,000 CDBG grant were initiated during Anne’s term of office.

• Emergency Preparedness – Anne was a Larchmont trustee on 9/11, and much of the emergency preparedness work was done at that time with the then sitting board.

Why did I tell you all that? I believe Anne’s knowledge of the many projects the Board is involved in means that she is up to speed and ready to resume her work where she left off. After I was elected last year, Anne McAndrews gave me a series of weekly seminars which proved clearly to me what a grasp of the essentials of government Anne has.

It is with the greatest pleasure that I nominate Anne Mc Andrews as the candidate of the Democratic Party for the position of Larchmont Village Trustee.
